Crisis Management

ASSESSMENTS

Aureus’ focus is on evaluating and identifying the nature of the addiction. We address not only the active addiction, but also the underlying factors within the person’s environment.

We work together with the family or concerned persons to develop and implement an action plan to stop the addictive process and begin recovery.

About 95% of interventions are successful in getting the afflicted person the help they need.

INTERVENTION

Our interventions are performed in a supportive and respectful environment. We use a non-judgmental, objective and caring process. The alcoholic or addict, or someone struggling with addictive behavioral issues, is given the choice to stop drinking or using and to begin learning healthier ways of dealing with life’s problems.

The intervention gives families and others the opportunity to stop caring about the alcoholic or addict’s behavior, and start showing how much you care about him or her.

Here are some other specialized features of our intervention and treatment approach:

  • We provide experienced, professional guidance, assistance, and support for a client’s efforts to develop and maintain a responsible, functional lifestyle.
  • We offer individual planning to minimize the potential for a return to harmful alcohol or chemical use.
  • We recognize obstacles outside the scope of our training, skill or competence and refer clients to other appropriate professional services.
  • We offer case management including assessment, counseling and planning for treatment options.
  • We offer these services to family members and others who are directly connected or affected by someone using alcohol or other drugs.

Recovery Management

Tailoring a program to your family’s unique set of needs

Counseling
Our experience has shown that many people begin to fall back into old patterns of behavior and thinking, whether they are with those new to recovery, back with their family, friends, or associates. All those touched by the addict’s life benefit from counseling on issues specific to the addictive process. Aureus offers a complete range of counseling services. There are many issues that fuel addictive thought and behavior, and Aureus believes that relapse is, in large part, due to not effectively addressing those issues. We tailor a program to fit each person’s or family’s needs.

Post-Treatment Chemical Dependency Counseling

People leaving treatment are often referred to an ongoing aftercare program. Aureus works closely with these programs to develop stronger levels of recovery. We add a family component, as well as work with employers, school personnel, or others to address potential relapse issues. Often, there are issues related to money and finances that have fueled the addiction before treatment. If these issues are not addressed, relapse becomes a stronger possibility.

Family Counseling
We recommend counseling and coaching for spouses/partners, parents, children and people of influence that support the recovering addict. Chemical dependency is considered a “family disease” and it is important to involve family in the recovery process. Most often, there is a sense of relief when a loved one completes treatment, but that is just the beginning of his or her recovery. The family may feel lost as to how they can support someone who is new to recovery, and may need to work on taking better care of themselves. Feelings of anger, resentment, codependency and many others may become issues when integrating the recovering addict back into the family. Aureus’ counseling and education will ease the stress of that process.

Family Meetings
Many times, families encounter issues related to addiction and recovery whether with those active in their addiction, or even those who are in a stabilized recovery program. We facilitate and mediate family meetings to develop strategies for moving forward. This can be a single meeting or it can involve achieving specific goals.

Counseling of Young Adults / Adolescents
Aureus offers specialized services for this critical stage in a young person’s recovery. For the younger person new to recovery, a myriad of relapse triggers may reveal themselves. Relapse rates for those under 25 tend to be higher than the general population. Aureus works closely with aftercare programs to minimize relapse risks.

Education for Families and Advisors

Alcohol and drug abuse is a leading cause of health problems and premature death.  In the United States, 22.6 million people over the age of 12 have a problem with alcohol and drugs and over 20 million are untreated.  This is significantly higher than the prevalence of other serious and chronic illnesses such as coronary heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.  The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has named alcohol and drug use the number one health problem facing the United States.

Aureus offers families, advisors, and businesses the opportunity to learn about alcohol and drug abuse, how it effects them and what they can do to address their concerns.  We are available to lead discussions and make presentations to small groups and large conferences.  Our presentations can be tailored to meet the needs of a family or an employer or professional group.

Aureus’ professional staff have made a wide range of presentations, from the 2008 annual conference of the Family Firm Institute to church and community groups.  We seek to educate, offer practical suggestions, and provide hope to people who are struggling with the complex issues addiction presents.  We believe that the more people understand, the more confident and effective they can be in addressing substance abuse in their personal lives and with clients, co-workers, and employees.
